I’m pleased to report that Milo has now in his new home as of 2pm today! It was incredibly difficult to say goodbye to him but he will be living the best life there. His new parents adore him and he has lots of land to run around on and chase the chipmunks. I will always have a spot in my heart for little Milo and am comforted knowing how treasured he will be in his new home.
I will be going to meet my potential forever family on Sunday! They sound great and plan to bring me to work with them where I can play with all of the other dogs during the day and will rarely have to spend any time alone. My foster mom told me about how dedicated they were (whatever that means) to their last staffordshire terrier named Sally and what a great life she lived. I will have a field behind the house to run in and lots of love and attention from my new mom and dad. I will be sad to leave my foster family, but my mom says she couldn’t ask for a better situation and is very happy that someone is interested in adopting me. I promise I will behave as best as I can and will send an update after we meet this weekend.

Milo wishes all of the mothers and mothers-to-be (both human and canine) a very happy Mother’s Day!!
Milo has been a very happy boy this weekend because we had a special friend visiting. Champ is an American Bulldog (available for adoption through PAWS New England as well) who Milo thinks is the best thing since sliced bread! Nearing a whopping 90lbs, Champ far outweighs Milo but they have a blast together. They’ve literally been playing nonstop for the past two days.

Little Milo is doing very well lately! I’m happy to report that with just some minor changes in our routine he is not resource guarding his toys as often. I have been hand feeding Milo his breakfast and dinner which has made the most noticeable difference in his behavior. He is also no longer allowed up on furniture unless he’s invited. This has really turned things around and he’s now listening and responding better. I’ve been able to work with him on obedience training now that his attention span has improved and he’s one smart pup. He’s great at sitting on command and is also working on lie down, stay, and waiting for his food or a treat before he’s released with an “OK”.
Milo’s looking great with his hair regrowth and is a happy-go-lucky pup. It still amazes me how quickly his hair has grown back in and what a funny little dog he is! I do hope his forever home comes along soon but we are still happy to have him here with us.

Good Thing #1: I am happy to report that the Marshfield adoption day was a huge success for PAWS! Milo had one applicant who unfortunately decided to withdrew her application in the end, however many other PAWS dogs were adopted as result including our pretty senior girl, Irene! It was wonderful exposure for all of our dogs who will hopefully be finding their forever homes shortly.
Good Thing #2: Saturday morning Milo had an appointment with Dr. Stillman at Court Street Animal Hospital. This was the first follow up since he was initially seen by Dr. Stillman and while he looks great I wasn’t expecting any miraculous results (demodex can be fairly stubborn and often takes a while to treat). Dr. Stillman and I were both pleasantly surprised to see that there were NO demodex mites present in any of the skin scrape samples from Milo! Typically to call a dog “treated” they need two consecutive negative skin scrapes a month apart. So while we still need to see what happens at next month’s appointment we are cautiously optimistic that Milo can be considered mange-free next month. For the time being we will continue administering oral ivermectin each day to be sure we’ve gotten rid of all the mites.
Good Thing #3: The adopters of the last pittie girl I had with severe demodectic mange (you can read her story here: www.sukhastory.wordpress.com) were at the event volunteering at the local shelter’s table and brought Sukha with them. It was great to see her completely healed and doing well, and Milo was able to help her with some training after the event. I always think it’s great whenever a foster can “pay it forward” by helping out another dog in need.
What a great weekend it was for Milo and his friends! Someone was verrrrry sleepy on the drive home Saturday.

Life has been a bit hectic lately and I apologize for not updating recently! Milo’s been a busy boy and is looking and feeling MUCH better. His hair is really starting to grow back in all the way and he’s having lots of fun on his playdates with doggie friends. Milo is beginning to show some behavioral issues however which we are working on; mainly resource guarding and separation anxiety. For now I’m recommending that he go to a home without children and probably not live in an apartment setting due to issues his anxiety could cause with neighbors. Otherwise he’s a wonderful little man! We have a vet appointment on saturday to recheck his skin and evaluate his progress, and from there Milo will be headed to an adoption day and will be available for meet and greets! Details are below, along with some photo and video of Milo’s recent adventures.
